In the Business of Home series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Tim Pfeiffer loves the West Coast. Having just returned from a dayslong road trip along the California coastline, the co-founder of the Seattle-based firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer is feeling especially inspired by the vistas. “From the redwood forests to the ocean beaches and sandy deserts, there’s a rugged enchantment to the scenery.” … Pfeiffer conjures the vibrant colors of the coastal environment. “Natural elements weave together in earthy richness,” he says of the palette. — Business of Home
THE PICK: #17 FREMONT ERGONOMIC LEVER in dark brown patina by Sun Valley Bronze.
““We love Sun Valley Bronze for both the haptic experience and the way it patinas over time. These pieces last a lifetime, and that ka-thunk of good door hardware brings such satisfaction.””
The best of both worlds — Chicago style with Park City Inspiration. O’Brien Harris reimagines a Hinsdale kitchen with a stunning Park City-inspired aesthetic.
“After moving into their charming single-family home in Hinsdale, Chicago, they charged Laura O’Brien of O’Brien Harris with designing a kitchen that seamlessly integrates practicality with style. Inspired by their love for the elegant mountain vibe of Park City, UT, they envisioned a space that blends the best of both worlds—combining the open, functional space they need with the sophisticated mountain style they adore.”

Welcome to the Decorator's Address Book. H&G's monthly round-up of our favorite designer's best spots to shop, browse, and be inspired. This month the focus is on kitchen hardware – the jewelry of the kitchen, a small element that can make all the difference. Plus, what we love about hardware is even if you aren't doing a full remodel, changing it up can refresh your kitchen in an instant. Switching the color, shape or material can totally transform the look of your kitchen cabinets without the need to spend a lot of time, effort, or money.
THE PICK: Sun Valley Bronze Hardware
'For our recent contemporary Los Altos Hills, CA project the perfect solution was integrated cabinet pulls from Sun Valley Bronze. Located in Sun Valley Idaho, SVB makes solid, sand casted bronze hardware in a wide spectrum of luxury finishes. Along with the cabinet pulls, one of my favorite features in this kitchen is a custom-sized 3-bracket towel rail at the sink in a matching bronze finish.' — Melinda Mandell founder of Melinda Mandell Interior Design, based in San Francisco

Lori Kurnitsky, Bluebell Kitchens // Jon Levitties, JAGR Designs // Photography by Christian Garibaldi
“In taking on this 130-sq.-ft. kitchen in Provincetown, MA, Lori Kurnitsky was faced with a number of challenges. The goal was to create an efficient and cozy space that still feels open and connected to the rest of the home, but with its location close to the main entry of the house, as well as the living room, creating that space proved difficult. The scope of the project also included creating an unfitted furniture cottage style feel to the built-in kitchen cabinetry that blends cohesively with the rest of the home.
Setting the stage for the kitchen were kitchen cabinets that tied into the built-ins in the living area to create a seamless flow. Butternut Flat Cut cabinetry from Premier Custom Cabinetry in Elephants Milk Paint finish look like they were always part of the home. The cabinets are paired with Round Foot cabinet pulls in a burnished silicon bronze from Sun Valley Bronze as well as Borroca Soapstone countertops, backsplash and integrated mitered sink” — Kitchen & Bath Design News

Caymus-Suisun Winery featured in Wallpaper Magazine. Hardware by Sun Valley Bronze. Photography // Yoshihiro Makino
“California wine country may be best known for the Napa and Sonoma valleys, but in Suisun Valley, which is nestled between two mountain ranges just south-east of Napa, a diverse wine and farming community has been thriving for generations. As rustic and sleepy as this all sounds, a newly erected winery, designed by the architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ), signals the region’s dynamic future … BCJ’s goal was to create an immersive, multisensory experience during tasting visits. Glass walls and operable transom windows allow the tasting pavilion to be exposed to the outdoors; glass sliders that open 30ft wide on either side of the central tasting room invite the afternoon breeze that funnels north from the San Francisco Bay (a Suisun hallmark) to flow through the building; and a pyramidal oculus overhead draws daylight into the space.”
For this project, Sun Valley Bronze provided custom 4' and 6' grip handles, as well as cabinet and door hardware (RP-925 // L-169R Levers).
We are excited to announce that Caymus-Suisun Winery was recognized with an Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects, San Francisco Chapter at the 2023 Design Awards Ceremony at the Herbst Theatre on May 4th. The annual program recognizes outstanding achievements in Bay Area architecture and design. The project was praised for the ways it engages with the landscape and the creation of a vibrant, immersive new guest experience in an emerging wine region.

Mountain Living Magazine // It seems like we’ve all been spending more and more time in our living spaces, and the products and pieces that make up our environment are becoming increasingly important. Whether you are choosing building materials or furnishings, selecting well-made, quality products is more important than ever because as we all know, with added time comes added use and wear.
Hardware is no exception. Hardware is one of the unique components of our homes that we interact with every day. It is what we touch and use regularly and frequently in our living spaces. We engage with door hardware to pass through doors. Cabinet knobs and pulls open and close our cabinets. And sash locks and multipoint systems operate our windows.
While hardware may not take up as much visual space as larger parts of our homes such as furniture and art, it makes an impact, whether it is small and sleek, or designed to draw attention to the installation.

When Jennifer Sagum embarked on a gut renovation of her family’s Williamsburg home, she need not look far for inspiration. Having spent the past eighteen years immersed in the world of Marc Jacobs, she drew upon her keen eye and fashion sensibility to inform the creative process. "I’ve been vintage shopping since I was in 7th grade…I wear a lot of Marc and mix it with vintage. That’s how I wanted my home to be," the VP of Global Advertising & Media shares. To curate the perfect mix of old and new, Sagum turned to interior designer and vintage dealer Jennifer Chused of Chused & Co. Like Sagum, Chused began her career in fashion—first at Donna Karan and later at publications like Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Elle. "The house is very fashion," remarks Chused, who referenced Sagum’s own style of dressing as a source of inspiration. The pair hit it off and worked together to create a space that celebrates pattern and whimsy in a sophisticated way.
